“Lord Ghent, the Chamberlain himself, had stepped in today to let Ezrick attend the holiday, telling Aylan he was being ridiculous - which was unprecedented enough. Then to the Court’s astonishment, to everyone’s astonishment, Aylan had yelled back at Ghent before slamming out of the chamber in a fury, leaving them all in shock. Aylan rarely lost his temper with Courtiers, was always so self-controlled and poised. That he would challenge Ghent…. If Ezrick hadn’t witnessed the scene himself he wouldn’t have believed it. Ghent was a father to him. The only man Ezrick knew Aylan respected.”
