  The four black Knights were all that remained of the Chaηts’ reign and magic occupation. They stood fifteen-feet high: huge, eerie statues, one at each corner of Astara Square. Despite centuries’ effort, they’d been impossible to remove.

  Attempts had been made to incorporate the statues into the day’s festivities, but the red sashes adorning them just made their lurid horseheads creepier.
